The 84 Engineering plunge platens make grinding plunge lines and rounded corners simple and repeatable. These platens use a 6mm, 19mm or 25mm small wheel, which reduces friction and increases belt life. They are designed to provide the best finish on knives, with minimal gap between the roller and radiused edge of the platen. This ensures that there is no discernible transition between the wheel and 215mm flat platen, reducing the need for hand sanding.
The 6mm plunge platen is recommended for thinner blades, while the 19mm is recommended for integral bolster style blades and the 25mm for larger shaping. These plunge platens can be easily swapped out with the included platen on Shop Mate 48" or Shop Master 72" belt grinders, using the standard tooling arms. They can also be used with the included small wheel arm on a Gibson 72" grinder. The spigot can be mounted on either side of the plunge platen, allowing it to be used with the platen facing up or down depending on the application or preference.
