The Shapton M15 Japanese Whetstone On Wooden Base is a unique offering from Shapton, primarily available in the Japanese market. The M15 range is often compared to the Kuromaku range in terms of size, cutting feedback, and appearance. Many people refer to the M15 range as the Kuromaku stones mounted on a wooden stand and offered in similar grit options.
The M15 stones are known for their Splash & Go characteristic, which means they don't require soaking prior to use. Simply wet the stone and start sharpening, eliminating the waiting time for saturation. These stones are fast cutting and among the most efficient water stones available, making them ideal for achieving sharp edges quickly. They also require less frequent flattening compared to inferior quality stones, saving valuable time for professional sharpeners or serious home users.

The Shapton M15 series of stones may develop a dish after frequent usage. To maintain the stones, it is recommended to use a lapping plate to keep the surface flat for long life. We suggest using either the Jende Industries Glass Lapping Plate, Shapton Diamond Glass Lapping Plate, or the Shapton NAORU cast iron lapping system for this process.
The M15 stone is a Splash & Go stone, eliminating the need for soaking. After finishing sharpening, clean the stone and allow it to air dry naturally in a shaded position. Rapid drying can cause cracking, and leaving the stone in water can degrade its quality.
