The Naniwa Chosera whetstones are highly regarded in the Japanese sharpening market. These premium-level stones are renowned for their exceptional feedback and fast action, making them a preferred choice among professionals. One of their significant advantages is the variety of hardness across the different grits, allowing for effective sharpening on both harder and softer steels.
The stones possess a high grit density, ensuring optimal performance, and it is recommended to soak them briefly before use. With an impressive size of 210 x 70 x 25mm, these stones offer a longer lifespan compared to others on the market. Additionally. The Naniwa Chosera whetstones are typically reserved for professional sharpeners in Japan.
- Three levels of abrasion: Coarse, Medium, and Fine
- Aggressive stones designed for stock removal, repairs, and (re)profiling
- #400 Chosera: Solid, hard, and aggressive stone that does not wear easily
- #600 Chosera: Softer stone with sensational, "buttery" feedback, excels on harder steels
- #800 Chosera: Technically a coarse stone, leaves a good, basic working edge when used with mud
- Refines the edges on most tools and knives to working sharp levels
- Quickly performs maintenance on dulled knives
- Aggressive enough for minor repair and profiling work
- #1,000 Chosera: One of the best stones in the series, leaves a slightly more refined edge than other 1K stones
- #2,000 Chosera: Softer stone, produces an excellent "good enough" edge on softer steel knives (HRC~55 and below)
- #3,000 Chosera: Harder stone, perfect for a working edge on a quality knife and setting up for polishing stages
- Brings every edge to a whole new level, making cutting effortless
- #5,000 Chosera: Softer stone with wonderful feedback, produces a mirror finish
- #10,000 Chosera: Takes the mirror finish even further, refines the edge to "shaving sharp" levels
- It is highly recommended to use the #5,000 before the #10,000 for the best results

We recommend soaking the Chosera stone for only 2-3 minutes for initial sharpening. After soaking, you can splash water on the surface to keep it wet. The Nagura stone will assist in developing a slurry for finer cutting. It is important to note that the Nagura stone is not for flattening the whetstone, as this is a common misconception. Once finished sharpening, clean the stone and allow it to air dry naturally in a shaded position. Rapid drying can cause cracking, and leaving the stone in water can degrade its quality.
